In its simplest form, curry is an Indian gravy or sauce that is used in tandem with meat, tofu, or vegetables. It's served rice, most popularly Basmati rice, and contains many different kinds of spices. Depending on what your recipe calls for, you could have a mild curry or a curry that's super spicy.

But in general, the ``authentic'' way to eat curry is without cutlery, by tearing off a piece of bread (eg chapati) and using it to scoop up some food and sauce, then deliver it into your face in one delicious combined package.

Butter chicken and tikki Marsala are good starts if you like creamy foods. Dry chicken tikka or tandori chicken are also good starts if you don't like creamy foods. Samosas are also delicious. They also make a wonderful variety of vegetarian dishes such as stuffed eggplant or palak paneer or rajma masala.
